As a member of Equal Voices, I am disturbed to see churches making a public stand about their own ‘religious freedom’ when, in fact, that boils down to their desire to discriminate against those they have discriminated against appallingly for the whole of church history. They are simply increasing their load of guilt. The Co-chairs of Equal Voices, Natalie Cooper and Becks Baxter, recently published a piece in the Medium which was critical of the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney for not being up-front with the Australian public about their real intentions in putting pressure on their Anglican school principals to sign an Open Letter – calling for the retention and expansion of discriminatory powers.
