It began late May. I was booked to do a podcast with Sharon and Tracey, The Cult Sisters (see below). I think we were all expecting the conversation to be over after an hour. FIVE HOURS later we wrapped up the recording.
How will they ever edit that down to a podcast, I wondered.
They didn’t. It became three podcasts. Keith Green, Last Days Ministries, Sy Rogers and homosexuality
It has become one of The Cult Sisters most successful podcasts with 1,000s of downloads. As I look back now it feels like this podcast series is one of the top 10 important things I’ve ever done. The feedback has been amazing.
Sharon, at the conclusion of the final podcast dropped some bombshells. Firstly, she said that everyone should read A Life of Unlearning and therefore she would cover the cost for anyone who purchased it. Next, that they were going to put on a free concert for Halloween with chart-topping, singer, songwriter, drag queen, Flamy Grant (see below). And now I’ve been invited to join them.
I will be doing various things in Florida now I’m here for Thursday’s concert including speaking at Orlando’s Joy Metropolitan Community Church (see below) at tomorrow’s 10:45 am live broadcast service. Details on their Facebook page or Instagram.
As I said, “one thing leads to another”…….. life can be interesting,
Flamy Grant: A Drag Queen’s Journey from Church Kid to Chart-Topping Christian Artist
Flamy Grant, born Matthew Lovegood, is making headlines as the first drag queen to top iTunes’ Christian music charts. Growing up in a conservative Christian environment in rural North Carolina, Lovegood faced significant internal conflict regarding their queer identity. Initially aspiring to be a contemporary Christian artist, Lovegood’s journey included years of suppressing their identity and grappling with shame.
After years in the church, including attempts at conversion therapy, Lovegood embraced their queerness in 2010. By then, they were a worship leader but faced rejection when they began dating men. This led to a decade-long exploration of faith outside traditional boundaries, culminating in the creation of Flamy Grant during the pandemic. Flamy Grant’s performances merged drag with messages of love and acceptance, resonating with audiences who felt marginalized by the church.
Lovegood’s music, including the album *Bible Belt Baby*, reflects their experiences and challenges the exclusivity of the Christian music scene. They aim to offer visibility and hope to queer youth within church culture, asserting that one can embrace their identity while still having a relationship with God.
Flamy Grant’s rise represents a transformative moment in Christian music, inviting broader interpretations of faith and inclusivity. Lovegood states their mission is to be a prophetic voice, advocating for love and acceptance within the community. Listen to The Cult Sister and Flamy Grant podcast HERE.

Feet of Clay – Confessions of the Cult Sisters
is a podcast hosted by Sharon Madere (Bennett) and Tracey Phalen (Reed), former leaders at Last Days Ministries (LDM) alongside Keith and Melody Green. They candidly discuss the spiritually damaging influences of the Greens and LDM’s enduring materials, like ‘The Last Days Newsletter.’ Both women joined LDM as teenagers, marrying there before leaving the organization in 1987. Despite moving hundreds of miles apart, they clung to their beliefs for over a decade before divorcing in the early 2000s. The podcast explores their journeys out of the cult mindset, healing, and finding humor along the way.
