Faithfully Me
Coming out as transgender in a Christian environment from two different sides of the pulpit has its challenges. Faithfully Me is a 25 minute documentary that follows two transgender individuals. One being Rev Josephine Inkpin, Australia’s first openly transgender ordained priest, and the other, a transgender man, as they embark on their own individual quests to reconcile their true identities and their faith. Meeting the significant people in their lives gives further richness to their stories.

I appreciated the film, its honesty, its sensitivity, its hopefulness and optimism. My family includes a couple of trans members. Learning (when they were in their late teens) that they were trans didn’t change my attitude to them or my love for them. As a deeply committed and active church man, I accept them for who they are. They deserve love, acceptance, and respect just like everyone else. And they should be loved by church people. After all, the greatest commandment requires that we love everyone. I’d like to see more Christian eyes opened to their responsibility to fully accept — not just tolerate, but love — LGBTQ+ people.
