CURED documentary review – a MUST SEE for all LGBTQ people, families, friends and allies.
Ambassadors & Bridge Builders International (ABBI) and Brave Network are pleased to announce a private virtual screening of the award-winning PBS documentary CURED, which highlights a pivotal but little-known moment in LGBTQ history when activists rose up to challenge a formidable institution — and won!
On Thursday, August 25th at 8 pm AEST, we will host a live screening of Cured over Zoom. The screening will be followed by a pre-recorded virtual panel discussion about the film featuring the project’s co-directors and Australia’s Anthony Venn-Brown. and co-founder of the Brave Network, Nathan Despott.
Described as “fascinating” (Hollywood Reporter), “riveting” (The Queer Review), and “one of the best documentaries of this or any year” (British Film Institute) — and the winner of the American Historical Association’s John E. O’Connor Award for the best historical documentary of 2021 — CURED takes viewers inside the David-versus-Goliath battle that led the American Psychiatric Association to remove the diagnosis homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses in 1973.

While CURED highlights a little-known story from the past, its lessons are profoundly relevant today. Ultimately, the documentary celebrates the path-breaking contributions of LGBTQ pioneers while demonstrating that, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, lasting social change is possible.
ABBI and Brave Network are proud to partner with the producers of CURED to offer this event to our community members. You can read a full review HERE.
PS. I met Patrick Sammon, one of the producers/directors of Cured, at a World Pride conference in New York, in 2019 and remained in contact since. I’ve seen the documentary several times. It is a MUST-SEE.
